Hello, I’m a retired musician who plays for senior living communities a few times a year. A number of friends join me each time—we call ourselves Spirit Singers.
We serve a couple of facilities regularly in Denver and Thornton. I play acoustic guitar and sing, and prefer to have volunteers back me up (the residents typically sing, too).
We have two weekends booked to celebrate Valentine’s Day, one on Saturday, February 7 (in Denver) and the other on Valentine’s Day, February 14 (in Thornton).
We’re singing love songs from the ’30s through the ’70s. I’ve picked 21 songs—about an hour or so of singing—we don’t sing every song in its entirety. I send lyric sheets out via email.
A few important notes:
• Vocal ability is a non-issue. What is required is joy and a desire to serve a population who are often ignored.
• It’s family oriented (kids are welcome), and we keep it appropriate. Dad jokes may occur, but they’re clean.
• No uniforms or dress code. Wear what you wish (costumes for holidays are nice, as long as they’re G-rated).
• This is really very informal. No rehearsals, no pay. We sing, say hi to the residents, and get on with our day.
• My guitar is simply to keep us in time and in tune—I’m not seeking other instrumentalists, so please don’t ask.
Message me if you’re interested in participating, and I can tell you more.
Please be willing to give me a personal email address.
Thanks and happy new year! Todd
