We are currently accepting applications for a construction excavation foreman to direct daily field operations on earthwork and utility projects. Responsibilities include supervising heavy equipment operators, interpreting blueprints and survey grades, ensuring OSHA trenching compliance, and tracking project materials.
JOB PURPOSE
To work on and manage, Civil Excavation Jobs, Underground Utilities, Site Grading and Commercial Construction Projects
Core Responsibilities
• Site Management: Oversee excavation, site grading, and installation of underground utilities (storm, sewer, waterline) ensuring adherence to local Colorado municipal and state specifications.
• Crew Leadership: Supervise, work along side of, train, a 2-5 man crew of operators and laborers, assigning daily tasks to meet project deadlines.
• Quality & Safety: Conduct daily safety briefings, enforce OSHA regulations (especially trenching and shoring protocols), and maintain a safe working environment.
• Project Tracking: Interpret survey stakes, read blueprints, monitor grades, and complete daily administrative paperwork, such as tracking materials and reporting progress to Project Managers.
• Heavy Equipment Operation: Perform hands-on operation of heavy machinery (excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, etc.) when needed. To ensure ALL project equipment is maintained and inspected daily.
• Communication: Coordinate with client managers, project inspectors, city/county officials, subcontractors, and company management to resolve any on-site discrepancies.
• Experience: Minimum 3 to 5+ years of experience as a foreman in civil construction, earthwork, or as a lead equipment operator.
• Equipment Proficiency: High-level expertise in operating and troubleshooting heavy earthmoving equipment.
• Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, elevations, and use surveying equipment (lasers, GPS, levels).
• Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of local zoning and construction regulations.
• Licensing: Valid Colorado Driver's License and a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets minimum requirements for our insurance to allow operation of company owned vehicles
• Physical & Environmental: Ability to work in varying Colorado weather conditions and perform physical tasks. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a asset but not required
• Ability to effectively operate equipment and see that all onsite equipment operators work in a safe manner at all times, in an effort to eliminate damage and injury when excavating in the vicinity of underground utilities (communication, power, natural gas, water, etc.)
• To ensure that locates are present and clearly visible in all areas where excavation work is scheduled to take place.
QUALIFICATIONS and EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred, not required
• Reliable transportation required.
• Mechanical aptitude a plus.
• Specialized knowledge: An understanding of math above a standard level; demonstration and direction of safe work practice in excavations (OSHA Construction Regulations)
• Skills: Can demonstrate critical thought process; open and active listening of directives from supervision
• Abilities: ability to solve and resolve problems related to construction projects
• Professional Certification: Competent Person, Confined Space, OSHA 10 or 30 certification a plus.
