About the Role
Lakewood Electric is seeking a sharp, detail-oriented Commercial Electrical Estimator to join our team. You won’t just be "counting widgets"—you’ll be the strategic backbone of our bidding process.
The ideal candidate understands that a successful estimate is a blend of precise data, field intuition, and strong vendor relationships. You’ll be responsible for taking projects from initial RFP through a comprehensive final bid, ensuring we remain competitive without sacrificing quality or margin.
Job Requirements
Take-offs & Analysis: Perform comprehensive material and labor take-offs using software like Accubid and Bluebeam.
Site Walks: Attend pre-bid meetings and site walkthroughs to assess existing conditions and logistics.
Project Scoping: Review blueprints, specifications, and RFPs to identify potential "gotchas," long-lead items, and value-engineering opportunities.
Bid Management: Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes to ensure complete coverage of the scope.
Collaboration: Work closely with Project Managers and Field Superintendents to ensure the transition from "bid" to "build" is seamless.
What You Bring to the Table
Experience: 7+ years of experience in electrical estimating (focused in commercial construction, Design-Assist, Design-Build, and Bid Build.)
Technical Chops: Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, etc. ) and on-screen takeoff tools. Value Adds, Value Engineering, etc.
Knowledge: A deep understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and current market pricing for commodities (copper, conduit, etc.).
The "Field" Factor: While this is an office-based role, a background as a Journeyman or Foreman is a huge plus—you know how long tasks actually take in the dirt.
Soft Skills: The ability to communicate complex bid details to stakeholders and the "grit" to meet tight bid deadlines.
