About Denver Metro Jazz
Denver Metro Jazz is a collective of highly skilled "non-occupational" musicians dedicated to advancing and performing big band jazz. As a registered non-profit organization, our mission is focused purely on exceptional musicianship and community enrichment, not commercial ventures.
We have quickly established ourselves as a standout ensemble in the region, performing sold-out shows at venues like Dazzle Denver and events such as the Kirskindlmarket, with performances supported by partners like the City of Englewood and appearances at local spots like Bar404. Musician Requirements
We are seeking a talented musician who is passionate about both music and community. Please review the following requirements before applying:
Non-Occupational Musician Status: Applicants cannot be full-time working performance musicians. Our band is built on the talent of dedicated individuals from all walks of life who pursue music as a serious, high-level hobby.
Weekly Rehearsals: Availability to attend weekly rehearsals every Thursday night from 7:00 PM – 8:15 PM.
Sectionals: Availability to attend a monthly sectional 3rd Thursdays monthly from 8:15 - 9:00 PM.
Performance Availability: Availability for approximately 8–10 public performances per year.
Membership Dues: All members pay monthly dues to fund music, administration, rehearsal space, and other materials. The 2026 big band membership amount has been set at $80 per month.
Audition Details
Auditions can be submitted via email recording or in-person.
Live Audition (Open Drop-In):
Date: Sunday, January 4th
Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (Drop-in during this window)
Location: 2155 South Madison St, Denver, CO
The audition will consist of the following:
Repertoire Excerpt: A prepared excerpt from the current Denver Metro Jazz repertoire
Except from “Days of Wine and Roses” From B-D 152 BPM.
Improvisation: An improvised solo over a Bb Blues backing track.
Technical: A performance of the attached G major scale exercise.

How to Apply
To apply, drop in for our open rehearsal at 2155 Madison Street in Denver on Sunday January 4th from 1-4 pm. Or submit a recorded audition via email, please reply to this post with your name, recordings, and a brief statement of interest, we intend to have the seat filled for our January 8th rehearsal.
