Time code enables different pieces of studio gear to work together but it has become a source of problems and frustrations for many engineers. The Brainstorm SR-15+ Time Code Distripalyzer can eliminate these frustrations by providing three essential functions in one comprehensive unit: a time code analyzer, a distributor/ reshaper and a pilot tone stripper.
Time Code Analyzer and Readouts
Built for SMPTE/EBU longitudinal time code workflows, the SR-15+ helps you confirm that code is present and usable before it causes sync issues downstream. Front-panel analyzer LEDs indicate signal status and common conditions, including Signal Present and Good Code, plus ASCII, Color, Drop, and Video Code indicators. An 8-digit display supports multiple functions, including reading time code and user bits, showing video phase alignment, and reporting detected errors with their description and address.
1x5 Distribution with Reshaping
Use the SR-15+ as a studio-friendly distribution and conditioning hub for LTC. It provides a 1x5 distributor configuration with two XLR inputs and a front-panel input selector switch, making it easy to route or compare sources. Outputs are provided on XLR and include switchable rise time for waveform reshaping, with front-panel level control (full off to +8 dBU balanced, or to +2 dBU unbalanced). Designed for real-world machine control and chase scenarios, it supports forward or reverse code and operation during play, shuttle, and wind.
Pilot Tone Stripper and Frequency Counter
For audio-for-picture and transfer rooms that still rely on reference tones, the SR-15+ includes a pilot tone stripper with time code conversions: 24 fr/sec (film) 60 Hz, 25 fr/sec (PAL) 50 Hz, 29.97 fr/sec (NTSC) 59.94 Hz, and 30 fr/sec (SMPTE) 60 Hz. The stripper output waveform is selectable as a low-distortion sine or square wave. A 4-digit display doubles as a frame-rate reader (approximately 21 to 39 fr/sec) and frequency counter (approximately 5.00 to 99.99 Hz), with 0.01 resolution and a 4x per second update rate.
Connections and Rack-Friendly Build
Connectivity includes XLR female inputs (2) and XLR male outputs (6), BNC for color ID in loop and video reference in and loop, DB-9 (RS-232) serial, DB-25 (Centronics) parallel, and a 1/4-inch jack for relay out and event in. The unit is housed in a 19-inch, 1RU chassis (19" x 1.75" x 9.5") and weighs 8 lb, with an IEC 320 power inlet.
