This is a volunteer opportunity to learn with a small team of volunteers led by a retired design/build general contractor in a stunning part of Hawaii.
Above all, this is a team collaboration. It is not a job, and it is not a helper situation. It is a place where we all freely and consciously choose to do things together. Our priorities are learning, teaching, and building community - modeling that for the kids. If things get accomplished in the process, great, but that is not the goal, nor a requirement. This should be your focus as well, and by visiting, you acknowledge that it is.
In the coming weeks, we're going to put in full days forming and pouring concrete footings for about 100 feet of retaining wall and 25 small 2x2 footing pads. We'll then frame out and build an 800-square-foot floor. It is possible we'll also get started constructing a 200-square-foot tiny home.
We don't have a budget beyond materials, but we will take the time to begin to teach you as many of the trades as we can, from foundation to finish. We'll also house and feed you with our family, and take you to the beach every afternoon - with surfboards supplied and lessons if you'd like. We're a smoke and alcohol-free home.
If you'd like to get your hands dirty and learn through experience, this might be a good way to spend the next few weeks. If you volunteer for 15 full days, we'll be pleased if we can gift you your round-trip airfare.
If interested, please share more about yourself, your skills, life experience, and why this opportunity makes good sense for you.
