Super cool and versatile and rare light -- it's no longer manufactured -- probably a collectible to discerning light lovers
“Alfiere” adjustable floor lamp for Artemide
Enzo Mari & Artemide
This floor lamp was designed by Enzo Mari in 1997 and manufactured by Artemide. It is a rare piece, hybridating the traditional structure of a reading lamp with a strong postmodern apperance, obtained with a careful use of materials and construction. Its structure is made by a gray-painted steel base and a chrome-plated stem united to the base with the help of a pressure joint that allows the user to adjust the stem's height (from 150 to 220 cm) and to freely rotate the stem. Also the shade is made of two part: the upper end is made of a metachrilate joint that connects with the chrome stem, while the lower diffuser is made of a satin aluminum. The shade can also rotate freely, therefore the lamp can give many lighting options. When lit, the light is directed downwards by the aluminum shade, but a small amount of it is also diffused in the room thanks to the transparent metachrilate part.
This lamp remains in overall very good condition except from one defect: the plastic joint was cracked (but not broken), so we have restored the crack with epoxy resin. The crack is therefore still visible but now solid.
