Up for sale is a rare, authentic fiberglass roof shell originally designed for a custom Ford E350 Extended Body build. This shell was manufactured in March 2013 by Rock Solid Composites in Nova Scotia, Canada—a highly respected marine and industrial fabrication shop known for over-engineered, extreme-weather components.
It was originally sourced by a custom conversion shop off Highway 287 in North Fort Collins before they closed their doors, making this a unique piece of local van-culture history.
If you are currently building or restoring an E350 "Overland" style rig, this is the missing piece for a high-clearance conversion. This shell is highly versatile: its low-profile footprint means it can be bolted down as a permanent, heavy-duty fixed mid-top, or it can be used as the structural upper shell for a custom pop-top mechanism.
Unlike mass-produced, thin tops, this is a heavy-duty, marine-grade molded fiberglass shell designed for long-term durability, structural integrity, and supporting heavy roof loads (like racks, solar arrays, or heavy snow).
DETAILS & SPECS:
COMPATIBILITY: Ford E350 Extended Body (E-Series vans).
APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS: 160" Length x 58.5" Width x 16.5" Height (Vertical Rise).
INTERIOR CLEARANCE: Yields an estimated 5'10" of bare interior standing height before floor/ceiling finish (if mounted as a fixed top).
VERSATILITY: Can be installed as a permanent fixed top or utilized as the upper lid for a pop-top build.
MANUFACTURER: Rock Solid Composites (Nova Scotia, Canada).
MANUFACTURER DATE: March 2013 (Tag is completely intact on the interior).
CONDITION: Structurally sound with thick, molded-in horizontal reinforcement ribs on the interior for roof load capacity. The exterior white gelcoat is solid with no spider-cracking. There is some minor cosmetic surface staining from storage, as well as a single, superficial gelcoat chip on the roof (shown in photos) that can easily be filled with marine gel paste or painted over. Note on front lip: There is a small crack on the very front edge of the mounting flange (shown in photos). This is a non-issue for the final build, as this section of the flange must be trimmed down during installation to match the exact roof contour of the van anyway.
These shells are exceptionally overbuilt and are becoming impossible to source now that the E-Series platform has transitioned out of the mainstream retail conversion spotlight. Perfect opportunity for a DIY builder looking for a bombproof setup.
