Lot of 5,600+ 78rpm records + sleeves - $3,500 (Denver)

condition: excellent
media type: vinyl
Lot of 5,600+ 78rpms

This sale is for 5,600+ 78rpms. These records are originally from a store in New Mexico that sold records and serviced jukeboxes from the late 40’s thru the 60’s. The juke box records have been weeded out and removed from this lot. The over-played, cracked and VG records have also been thrown away. Many of these records have been played but about half are leftover store stock. They have been moved several times over the past 60-70 years and transferred to newer boxes but remain uncirculated.
There are 85 boxes and each hold between 65 to 75 records depending on the label and pressing. A full box of mid to late 50’s MERCURY records might hold up to 75 records while a box of late 40’s COLUMBIA records, which are thicker, might hold 65 to a box. The 5,600 record estimate is low but I would rather the buyer be pleasantly surprised with their purchase than disappointed. It is probably closer to 6,500 records.
New Mexico is arid so mold is generally not a problem. For the past decade these records have been stored in Colorado and not exposed to humidity or moisture. The sleeves are crisp and in excellent condition. Most wear of the store stock portion has been from storage and not normal use. These records are in sleeves but I also have 800+ extra company sleeves that I will include.
These records are most all Post-War (late 40’s thru late 50’s). There is a lot of Country, Western Swing and Hillbilly music. There is also a lot of Pop, Male & Female Vocalists as well as Jazz of that era (Big Band, Small Combos, etc…). There is a smaller amount of R&B, Christmas, Novelty and Comedy. Since a lot of these records were left-over store stock there are multiples of many titles.
The main labels includes, but not limited to, are COLUMBIA, CAPITOL, RCA-VICTOR, DECCA, MGM, MERCURY, CORAL, KING, IMPERIAL and DOT. There are other smaller labels includes but the bulk are the labels listed above.
This lot is part of a larger collection I purchased over a decade ago. I have sold thousands of these 78’s on Ebay and at record shows. Clean 78’s (anything E- or better) are hard to come by and desirable to anyone who cares about these fragile discs.
This is a great collection for anyone who wants to sell 78’s online or even just sell clean company sleeves. Also, for anyone who deals with 78’s jukeboxes, this is a quick way to fill them with great records from that era. Lastly, it's a great collection for anyone who wants to build a clean collection of great music in a hurry.
These records are for pick-up only. I will NOT be shipping them. They can be viewed before you purchase them (Denver, CO 80206). Just contact me to set up an appointment. They are stored in a building with a large freight elevator, dollys and a loading dock. However, bring your own muscle. My back is of no use when it comes to moving record boxes but it shouldn't be that tough of a move.
Feel free to contact me with any questions,
Eric
