These have built in powered amp driven subwoofers in each. Volume control lets you have as much or little bass as you want. No additional subwoofer needed. I did an a-b comparison with my Advent Heritage towers. Much bigger soundstage and separation than the Advents. They really fill up the room with sound. Cases and grills are a 8-9. Black oak veneer and very heavy. Drivers are perfect.
