The series I version were the best sounding of the 901s as they are a sealed cabinet design, not ported as later versions were to appeal to a wider market and better efficiency. Series I are an acoustic suspension cabinet design, fibreglass lined and as a result produce lower, tighter bass response than later series and are true to the original design of Omar Bose who set out to produce a revolutionary speaker that reflected the sound to the listener similar to how sound is reproduced in a concert hall. Another difference of the Series I compared to later versions is the coated cloth surrounds on each of the 9 drivers. These do not suffer from issues of drying out and cracking and will not ever need replacement.

This set has had a "light" restoration, whereas the walnut cabinets have been gently sanded and re-oiled with the finest Rubio monocoat linseed oil. Additionally, each of the 18 original drivers were carefully removed, inspected, old dried out mortite sealant removed and then resealed in the same way the factory did it over 60 years ago. The Series I equalizer has had a new neon power switch light-bulb installed and capacitors checked for leakage.
The condition is exceptional on these 901s and must be seen in person. These need nothing, sound wonderful, and will provide another 60+ years of listening pleasure.
