Job Description – SolidWorks Design Engineer

Local power equipment (snow throwers, mowers, log splitters, zero turn mowers, farm equipment, etc.) and tool company is seeking a talented SolidWorks Design Engineers to help with the development and growth of our new products. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic, be reliable, organized and resourceful. This is a fast paced, low overhead company, and as such you cannot be one to hide out in a large corporate structure, it doesn’t exist. You will be expected to wear many hats, and get your hands dirty. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right individual. Our company headquarters in Wesminster, CO. Key Customers: Tractor Supply Company, Blains Farm and Fleet, Lowes, Menards, etc.

Background: Previous experience with companies like: MTD, Ariens, Husqvarna, DR Power, etc. Knowledge of low cost country manufacturing is key.

Position Summary:
Plans, conducts, and implements product research, prototyping, testing and development to create world class designs of new and /or upgraded products. During the design phase, works closely with a wide variety of internal and external customers to define, meet or exceed design requirements. Performs extensive engineering design analysis to determine appropriate targets and tolerances for product specifications. Coordinates the work of technical resources, suppliers and other support personnel. Interacts with marketing, accounting, purchasing, and manufacturing during the product development and implementation phases. Interface with overseas vendors and overseas travel is required.

Knowledge / Skills Required:
Conceptual understanding of the design of farm, ranch, or agricultural products, or; other hard goods is desired.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated flexibility and comfortable with change management concepts.
Capable of handling high workloads in a dynamic work environment.
Core competencies: Demonstrated skills in continuous learning, flexibility, customer focus, quality commitment and good relationships are required.
Strong knowledge of the farming and ranching industry.
Strong knowledge of tractor linkage parts, log splitters, trimmers, chain saws, post hole diggers, etc.
Maintain current information on key competitor’s product, programs, etc.
Strong knowledge of product manufacturing processes including but not limited to: metallurgy, castings, forgins, machining, materials processing, rolling, forming, welding, and heat treating.
Strong knowledge for materials analysis including: chemical compositions, hardness testing, fatigue testing, microstructure, surface treatments, heat treatments.
Demonstrated innovative thinking and problem solving.
Demonstrated decision making and team building skills.
Solid understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
Proven proficiency required with FEMA, prototype and production control plans, PPAP processes, root cause and corrective action processes.
Solid modeling CAD skills, PDM works and Solidworks is required.
PC literate (MS word, Excel, etc)
Capable of supporting product testing requirements. Working out doors with various tools and equipment.
Must be a trustworthy person with excellent communication skills.
Wear many hats and be willing to get your hands dirty.
Domestic and Foreign travel will be required.

Education and Experience:
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
3+ year’s experience in a company that designs and manufactures products.
Experience in an ISO certified organization is preferred.
Strong background in tools, agriculture manufacturing, industrial manufacturing is preferred.

Salary:
$45-80K DOE. Performance bonus. No relocation is available so if you would like to move to the Boulder/Denver Colorado area we would be happy to have you.
