Recently discovered in a garage in Virginia and believed to be purchased new by Milton Hershey of the Hershey Chocolate family. They owned land in VA and in 1980 turned it into “Hershey Chocolate of Virginia Inc.” There are no documents to this fact but the story line, timing and location all track.
With production numbers not exact or to be found, just 1900 total 1940 Packards were produced that year and it is believed only 9, were Super Eight Limousines. 356 Cubic Inches Straight 8. 180 Horsepower – The highest rated horsepower car by any manufacturer to date as of 1940. 4600 Lbs, 211.7 In. with 138 inch wheelbase Original Price $2800-$3300 depending on options The first car and year for any car to offer Air Conditioning. Known history of this car. Purchased by “Likely the Hershey Family” and driven for years. Traded in to a Cadillac dealership. The Chauffer then went and purchased the car from the dealership and owned it until his passing. Then sold to the current owner in 1983. At his passing, being left and abandoned in his garage for a few years caught up in an estate battle. I purchased from the estate.
Condition – Minimal rust anywhere except surface and one door bottom. Engine turns over easily by hand. Last known to run approx.. 10 years ago. I think I can get it running early next week. Car is complete down to the 5 Hubcaps, Air Breather, Hood Ornament, Cigarette Lighters and all Door Handles . The interior is original, mostly intact and there. As with all the Limousines, it has the factory rear seat footrests. This one has the luggage rack option on the rear. Other options include Dual Spare Tire Wells, Dual Spot Lights, Sun Visors, Horn, Fog Lights, and more. The only piece missing is the dome light cover inside. Factory Radio, Heater and clock all intact also.
An easy restoration and priceless when done.
Respectively asking $34,500. Cash, Wire Transfer or I can accept a Credit Card at my business.
