4x4 works and engages great.
Factory rear E-locker works too.
Lifted 3inches and has a custom low profile front bumper.
Sunroof & back window both still work great (often an issue with 3rd gens).
AC & heat both blowing strong.
Starts and drives great in any weather.
Sold "as is" but I've generally kept up on maintenance and all upkeep, but recently found myself a beautiful new third gen so - I only need the one
This vehicle has been my daily driver for years and has been super reliable for me. I've driven this thing from the east coast to west coast multiple times, all the way down to Vegas or Tucson Arizona and back every year, and countless other road trips all throughout the northwest and central time zones. I've taken this on some of the more extreme off-road trails in Canyonlands & to the Colorado Crystal Mill in Marble too and it does amazing!
-It will pass emissions test (just did a few months back)
- last year I had to get the brakes and rotors and brake lines serviced before getting it to pass emissions. The brake pedal doesn't have a huge amount of pressure, & can be described as a bit soft but is always stopped just fine. ( if you've experienced some older toyotas/3rd gens you've probably experienced this yourself )
-BRAND NEW M.A.F. and boot just a few weeks back
-new starter&relay just a few months back.
-new fuel pressure regulator & fuel line injectors serviced (had a cracked o-ring in one of the injectors and was leaking fuel that's been fixed now) * didn't do a new fuel pump as I had a new one put in back in 2024
- for the most part has been up to date on the timing belt changes, I had one replaced while I owned it and we are just past the mileage for replacing it again (seen in pics). I was planning on doing the recent timing belt that needs to be done but then found myself another great 3rd gen.
- usually about every 2 years I'll have the suspension, upper & lower control arms, and CVS worked on / serviced (had this done a few times while owning it)
The "bad" -
-check engine light has been coming on for mass air flow since installing the brand new mass air flow. ( it will go on for a couple days then go off for a day and then come back on, honestly can't notice any major change in driving while it's doing this though)
-driver side lock doesn't work w/key from the outside. The door still works/opens though I just have to *unlock* the car from the passenger side.
- the interior is far from perfect as it's been used for a work and travel vehicle.
-front passenger window doesn't roll down. I disconnected the regulator after realizing the window will come out of its track so I just put it up and keep it up.
-passenger front side door hand mechanism isnt there and there is a string attached to the door lever which opens it. Probably a very simple fix and likely could be fixed if someone decides to also fix the window, I just rarely ever have passengers so it wasn't important to me.
- throughout the years of owning it, it's always had a tiny oil leak. Its never enough to drop the level of oil in any capacity, but you'll see some drops here and there. ( I don't have to keep dumping oil into it just regular oil changes and its always good to go )
For those who know how reliable these third generation 4runners can be, you'll know that with just a little bit of upkeep this vehicle will easily get you another hundred thousand miles or more. I feel it's priced pretty fairly as I've been looking into comparable third gen and when they have the timing belt done you'll see them selling with the same mileage for 2-3x what im asking.
