Clerical Support on Forest Fires (Ridgway, CO)

compensation: $175/day

Need someone who can start immediately on forest fire in Ridgway, Colorado.

Seeking friendly, tech savvy, people to join clerical support team for fire season. Bonus if you have your CDL, but not required.

Position requires being called at a moments notice to mobilize to fire in remote locations for multiple days and even weeks at a time. Mileage will be paid to and from fire locations. You will be staying at camp and working in shifts with other Clerical Support staff. Our office unit is open around the clock so some shifts will be at night. Most meals are provided at Forest Service camps and are very good. Fires can last from a few days to over a month at a time and we are often dispatched to fire locations back to back.

Sleeping arrangements vary from incident to incident and are the contractors responsibility. Forest Service provides tents and shower units for camping on-site on almost every incident. Some of our units have bunks in the unit itself and some people bring their own cots, tents or sleep in vehicles.

Responsibilities include:

Making copies for Forest Service Personnel. The most important being the daily Incident Action Plans (IAP's). These documents are used to relay information regarding incident operations and are very important

Large format map scanning and printing

Book binding and laminating

Troubleshooting tech issues

Keeping track of copies, maps and services rendered

Taking inventory and anticipating and requesting supply restocking

Mopping, dusting and organizing unit on a daily basis

Refueling generator

Faxing, creating booklets, signs and other clerical duties

Any other clerical or administrative task the Forest Service asks for. They are our customer and you will be expected to be courteous, cheerful and willing to problem solve. You also must be able to keep a cool head under stressful and remain positive in stressful situations.

This is a great seasonal position. You will meet lots of interesting people, travel to beautiful remote locations and be a part of emergency, fire support. We are looking for people who enjoy the outdoors and "roughing it" and also have experience working with technology. You must be calm under pressure as there is often a line of personnel needing our services. If a copier jams or if there are other technological failures, you must be savvy enough to troubleshoot and aid in identifying the problem. Attention to detail and organizational skills are a must. Most importantly you must be a friendly and respectful person.

Season typically starts in AZ then moves North. Right now we are staffing an incident in Colorado. We are looking for people that are available now. Depending on the fire season, we get dispatched on incidents back to back and traditionally keep our people very busy. If you are willing to travel you could end up in California, New Mexico, Idaho, Montana, Nevada or Utah.

You will be a 1099 Independent Contractor, paid a day rate, plus the federal mileage rate to and from the incident. Day rate not paid on travel days unless you perform clerical support same day.

This is an "as needed" position. Once you are on the team, we will call you when dispatched to check your availability. If you commit to an incident, you will be expected to stay for the duration. All scheduling conflicts must be approved in advance.
