Soviet historical-commemorative badge dedicated to the Battle of Lesnaya (1708) — one of the key battles of the Great Northern War.
What the badge shows
ЛЕСНАЯ — Lesnaya, the village where the battle occurred (in modern Belarus).
1708 — the year of the battle.
The eagle and the inscription below it:
"МАТЕРИНА ПОЛТАВСКОЙ ПОБЕДЫ"
meaning: “The Mother of the Victory at Poltava.”
This phrase was famously used by Peter the Great, who called the victory at Lesnaya the “mother” of his later, more decisive victory at Poltava in 1709.
The church/building is a depiction of a historic church in Lesnaya, often shown on Soviet pins marking the site of the battle.
Era
These historical-site pins were produced primarily in the 1960s–1980s, often sold at museums, memorial complexes, and Soviet tourist shops.
