I got this Jeep for a friend to build out a crawler rig because this Jeep is virtually rust free with 195k miles, but he ended up going to the dark side (Toyota). This jeep comes with upgrades and a ton of extras. I am not in a rush to sell and I will keep it for myself if it doesn’t sell. This Jeep is not perfect being almost 30 years old, but it is a great foundation for a crawler project. Pros and cons are all listed below.
Pros:
-Tires are LT 235-75R 15 Goodyear wrangler Duratrac snow and ice tires rated with 70% tread. Great for the upcoming snow season
-3.5 inch lift with upgraded lower control arms
-Transfer case drop kit
-cold air intake
-newer radiator
-newer front end bushings and steering components: newer sway bar link bushings and upper sway bar bushings, newer ball joints, newer drag link ends, newer tie rod ends, newer steering stabilizer, newer upper control arm bushings and newer track bar bushings. Absolutely no death wobble
-upgraded front steel bumper with hoop
-upgraded rear steel fender with hitch hookup
-upgraded headlights
-newer battery
-touch screen stereo for android, apple play or plug in connection
-4WD works great
-doesn’t overheat and shifts great
-Spare/complete AW4 transmission and torque converter in the back
-hardly any rust anywhere surprisingly except a few small spots on the door and fender which look to be surface rust
-drilled/slotted front rotors. All brakes work great and lock up perfectly
-rough country seat covers
-Absolutely no death wobble. You can drive it with one finger down the highway
-clean title
-Comes with: (4) oem fender flares, Rugged ridge HD steering kit with a couple new tie rod ends, upgraded front axle tube seals, oem inner frame steering box brace, fuel pump, distributor, other random sensors, spare lug nuts, complete spare AW4 transmission, grease gun, Solar panel battery trickler for overlanding
Cons:
-Oil pressure gauge on the dash broke, but the sensor has been swapped. Engine runs strong and shifts great. There are no oil pressure issues.
-Transmission leaks and it leaks on the exhaust which then smokes. Previous owner notated a possible cracked transmission housing, but I cannot find the crack. Included is a spare complete XJ AW4 transmission. The current transmission still shifts great and runs strong though. I just top off fluids if need be.
-The flex plate is noisy. I had a Jeep mechanic friend look at it and he thinks it is the flex plate. I have put a stethoscope on the bell housing and oil pan and I can hear the noise coming from the bell housing which is where the flex plate is. This would be swapped out when the trans is swapped out anyways. It makes a ticking sound which sounded exactly how my other jeep sounded before I swapped the flex plate. You are welcome to do any tests you need.
-needs motor mounts. The mounts are visibly bad and it shakes. You can see this when you rev it when it is in park and when driving. But it does not have suspension issues. You can drive this with one finger down the road. The suspension is tight with new parts
