Antique 5-Arm French Bronze Candelabra – Empire Style – Ornate Gilt with Slate Base
Bring timeless European grandeur to your space with this antique French or Italian bronze candelabra, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. This striking five-arm candle holder features richly detailed gilt bronze scrollwork and floral ornamentation, mounted on a substantial black slate base.
The design reflects the opulence and symmetry of Empire Revival and Neoclassical styles, with elements such as acanthus leaves, fruit garlands, floral rosettes, and mythical foliate creatures beneath the center column. These motifs were drawn from classical antiquity and were especially favored in high-end decorative arts between 1880–1920.
Though unmarked, the candelabra’s materials and construction are consistent with period European craftsmanship. The underside shows slotted screws, square nuts, and hand-cut fittings, indicative of pre-industrial techniques from the turn of the century.
