A beautiful and hard to find vintage Singer Featherweight 221 folding utility/card table Model 312.
Singer made two versions of their Featherweight Utility Table, the early Model 308 introduced in the mid-1930s and the later Model 312 introduced sometime after WWII. It was first marketed as the Singer Folding Utility Table and later as the Singer 3-Way Table. The 3 ways to use the table where for sewing, card playing, or informal dining. I have included a copy of a page from a 1951 Singer Electric Sewing Machines brochure showing an illustration of the table along with a description of its beauty and usefulness, see image 17. Singer Featherweights folding utility tables are hard to find and highly desirable!
This Model 312 Singer Featherweight sewing machine table is in great shape. The Simanco serial number T101357 is stamped on both the underside of the table and the insert. It does not appear that you can date these tables with their Simanco number like you can with the sewing machines. The table is sturdy and the metal legs fold easily. The top has been refinished and sealed to bring it back to life. There is small chip that was filled in on the insert, see image 16, and some age-appropriate scratches that were not sanded out during refinishing due to the thin nature of the veneer. One of the clips on the underside of the insert that holds the insert in place on the table is a replacement, see image 13.
The table top measures 30″ x 30″ and 27¼“ high when the metal legs are extended.
Note that only the black and tan Singer Featherweight sewing machines with serial numbers after the early Series AD and AE will fit the cutout on this table as they have the 5½” folding bed and do not have the early bobbin winder tensioner on the front of the machine bed. The later white/green Singer Featherweight sewing machine with the shorter 3½” folding bed will not fit the table either. Also, while the 222K Singer Featherweight sewing machine does fit in the table, because the 222K free-arm model is a slightly taller machine than the 221, the bed of the 222K machine sit above the table surface by about ½”.
The sewing machine shown in some of the pictures is NOT included; used for illustration purposes only.
If you are looking for a vintage Singer Featherweight Utility Table, this one will not disappoint!
