This Union Pacific switch lamp was made in USA circa 1980s by Handlan, a company that has manufactured railroad lighting equipment since 1856. In the mid 1980s Handlan started producing lamps and lanterns for the railroad collector and enthusiast under the Railfinders brand. These collector's items were based on the original railroad items, used many of the original parts and were of the same size and configuration but were electrified to be used as decorative lighting and display units and therefore did not have kerosene burners. They were available in antique brass finish, antique copper finish and black enamel and configured as swag lamps, table lamps and non-electrified for display.
This switch lamp is the black, non-electrified version with green and red lenses and day targets. The top cap is embossed with "UNION PACIFIC R.R." and has a small hole in the center to be electrified if so desired.
It is in very good original condition with original paint that has some chips, scuffs and blemishes but is quite presentable.
The magazine ad shows this lantern, in the center position, configured as a #151 table lamp.
