C.F. Christensen, also known as CFC Silkeborg, was a Danish furniture manufacturer based in Silkeborg, Denmark. The company was founded in 1899 by Carl Frederik Christensen, a trained turner who initially produced wooden items for local cabinetmakers. Over the decades, the firm evolved into a significant player in Danish furniture production, transitioning into a limited company in 1949 under the direction of Christensen’s sons, Knud and Erik. By the 1970s, CFC Silkeborg employed around 50 staff and exported furniture throughout Scandinavia, Europe, Japan, and the United States. The company remained active until its closure in 2002. CFC Silkeborg became known for its high-quality craftsmanship and collaborations with leading Danish designers during the golden era of mid-century modernism. Among its most prominent collaborators was Johannes Andersen (1903-1991).
This teak coffee table with a drawer on each end was designed by the renowned Danish designer Johannes Andersen for the Danish furniture company C.F. Christensen Silkeborg of Denmark. It was produced in the early 1960s.
This beauty has all of the clean and graceful lines you would expect from a Johannes Andersen piece. On each end is a drawer that fits beautifully into the table and can be pulled out when needed. It is Model 270, which is marked underneath, along with the metal CFC Silkeborg badge. Tapered legs and stretcher bars on each end complete the look.
The table measures 65” long by 23 ½ wide by 20” high. Each drawer can extend 25 inches and measures 2 ½“ deep. One of the two drawers is divided.
This coffee table is in excellent vintage condition. The teak has beautiful grain and color. There is some minor wear on the surface from decades of use, but nothing major. See image 11.
With its graceful lines and high level of craftsmanship, this hard to find Danish piece that will be a focal point in a mid-century living space.
