A mid-century walnut armchair by Baumritter Furniture.
Baumritter Furniture, later known as Ethan Allen, was founded in 1932 by Theodore Baumritter and his brother-in-law Nathan Ancell, initially as a housewares company, later evolving into a major furniture manufacturer known for its early American style. Fortunately, in the late 1950s and early 1960s there was a period of time where Baumritter changed with the times and had a mid-century modern inspired line of furniture. This chair is from that period. It is marked in back, under the cushion with a foil label. Baumritter pieces are very difficult to find.
This is a beautifully done armchair made with a nicely grained walnut. It has spindles for support in back and new stretchable rubber straps for extra support beneath the seat cushion. These are the Pirelli rubber straps you find in Danish chairs, not some cheap elastic band. The legs are nicely tapered as they should be.
It measures 28 ½ inches high in back by 27 ½ wide by 30 deep. It has a seat height of 17 inches with a seat depth of 21 ½ .
This chair is in excellent vintage condition. As mentioned, it has new rubber straps underneath. Inside the cushions is new, 3 inch high-density foam. It is very comfortable. The seat and back cushions are meticulously and professionally re-covered in mid-century inspired fabric. You don’t often find chairs for re-sale with this attention to detail in the re-covering. The wood has been lightly oiled to relieve it from the Colorado dryness.
This is an eye-catching and comfortable chair that will command attention in any space it occupies.
We have two of these chairs. The price is for a single chair.
It can be admired and sat in in the address in the listing. Metro Denver delivery is available.
