Glostrup Møbelfabrik was a significant Danish furniture factory in the 20th century, known for producing high-quality, sought-after pieces that helped popularize Danish modern design globally. The company primarily worked with designers like Grete Jalk and Juul Kristensen, creating furniture such as lounge suites, benches, armchairs, and coffee tables, which are now prized by collectors. Juul Kristensen (1937-2016) was a Danish furniture designer who helped shape the aesthetics of modern Scandinavian design. Active during the mid-20th century, he is recognized for his functional, minimalist designs that incorporate natural materials like teak and oak. Kristensen started by working for Danish design and manufacturing companies, such as Fritz Hansen and Rosendahl A/S. He established his own company, Juul Kristensen Design, in 1969, which produced a range of items including furniture, lighting, and home accessories. He received several honors during his career, including the Danish Design Foundation's Prix d'Excellence in 1974 and the Danish Design Grand Prix in 1987.
This three seat sofa was designed by Kristensen for Glostrup and was produced in the 1970s. We can differentiate it from 1960s model by the color of the Glostrup label underneath. It features beautiful teak frame with slats in back. It has a very clever support panel underneath to support the seat cushions. It measures 73 ½ “ x 23 x 31 high. This piece is in excellent vintage condition. The original fabric has been cleaned and the cushions are firm and comfortable. It was lightly used and well taken care of. It has been oiled and restored to relieve it from the Colorado dryness.
