This pair mid-century modern armchairs is truly exquisite, made in the style reminiscent of the grand French Louis XVI/Marie Antoinette era.
Key Characteristics of Louis XVI Armchairs:
Design: Emphasis on straight, clean lines, symmetry, and geometric shapes, a departure from the ornate Rococo style of the Louis XV period.
Backrest: Often rectangular or oval.
Legs: Typically straight and tapered, often fluted to resemble classical columns, and ending in rounded or slightly pointed feet.
Decoration: While restrained compared to Louis XV furniture, they may feature delicate ornamentation such as fluted columns, rosettes, urns, or floral motifs.

The Louis XVI style emerged during the late 18th century in France, reflecting a shift towards Neoclassicism and a rejection of excessive ornamentation.
Queen Marie Antoinette played a significant role in popularizing the style, commissioning furniture in this neoclassical design.
The style is often referred to as "à la reine" (in the queen's manner), featuring tall backs, low seats, and padding for comfort.
Beautifully hand-crafted from solid oak, these chairs feature a hand-molded frame with a square-shaped back expertly constructed. The wood showcases a naturally aged patina with a rich brown color, adding to their charm and character. The chairs retain their original orange fabric, which has been meticulously clean-finished. The spacious seats provide comfort and elegance, supported by elegant tapered, fluted legs that culminate in sleek feet, a characteristic feature of MCM chairs. With excellent joinery and craftsmanship, these armchairs boast a classic French silhouette, accentuated by a beautiful color combination.
These chairs were crafted by the legendary Hickory Chair Furniture Co. over 50 years ago. The company began over 100 years ago in Hickory, North Carolina with a single product and a simple vision. The product was a made-to-order dining chair. The vision was to combine the authenticity of classic craftsmanship with the efficiency of modern manufacturing. In the decades since, their product range has evolved into an assortment of timeless designs, drawn from significant periods and places, and from the talents of some of the world’s most respected designers.

Pick-up: this table is currently located at my home in Fraser, which is near Winter Park. If picking up in a scenic mountain town is not convenient for you, I could bring it to a friend’s house in Congress Park or Littleton.
