A vintage torchiere table lamp by Rembrandt Lamps.
The Rembrandt Lamp Company was founded in 1816 in Baltimore, MD, originally making gas lamps. They transitioned to electric in the 1870s. Amazingly, they are still in business today and their appeal has not diminished. Rembrandt is particularly known for their use of a torchiere shade, as seen on this piece.
Decorators and collectors seek the vintage lamps like this one because their eye-catching design and immediate recognition that a Rembrandt is immediately recognized as something different.
This lamp was probably made somewhere in the 1940s to 1950s, giving it an Art Deco look but getting close to Mid-century Modern. The use of the textured, milk glass torchiere shade on top is the classic Rembrandt accent that gives the Art Deco look. It will direct the light upward, where it will beautifully reflect off the ceiling and walls. This lamp came with the cloth shade, which is included, but in my opinion, it hides the best part of the lamp. You can tell the shade is probably original to the lamp by the way it sits on the torchiere shade. The base and part of the neck is brass. There is a tapered black section in the middle, that after deliberation, I believe is painted metal. On the socket is the original Rembrandt Lamp Company sticker.
The base measures 6 ¾ “ in diameter. From the surface to the top of the torchiere measures 28 ¾“.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition. The electricals work fine and the socket is a 3 way. The plug had seen better days so it was replaced for safety. There is a small scratch on the black metal piece which can always be turned to the back. Rather than risk an imperfect match, I left it as honest wear from 80 years of being enjoyed. See image 7.
This is a very hard to find, eye-catching lamp that is probably pushing 75 to 80 years old. This lamp will light up your space in style.
