Monarch Investment and Management Group is looking for a Tax Manager who will be responsible for all aspects of the federal, state and local tax filing responsibilities of Monarch and its subsidiaries including assisting the accounting firm responsible for preparing and signing the return.
Monarch is 23 of the top 50 multifamily owners in the country and a 2017 Top Workplace! We are privately owned since 1992. We currently manage over 47,108 apartments in twenty states, in addition to a nationally franchised hotel and a ski and snowboard resort.
This position will office at our home office in Franktown, CO.
In addition to the tax compliance requirements, this person is responsible for assisting the accounting group, Asset Management and Investors with tax questions that arise. This person must also be willing to get into the details and review general ledger and fixed asset detail.
-Research Various Tax related issues;
-Oversee, assist in the preparation and review of Partnership Returns
-Work closely with all staff to provide tax advice as questions arise;
-Review General Ledger detail to identify misclassified capital items;
-Help manage Fixed Assets and depreciation;
-Assist in structuring 1031 exchanges into and out of our investments;
-Monitor Tax Payments and associated withholdings from Investors;
-Monitor and oversee Real Estate Tax Valuations and Appeals;
-Work with investors to answer their tax related questions;
-Oversee the distribution of K-1s (currently 14,000);
-Identify federal and state tax saving opportunities and credits;
-Work closely with outside CPA firms contracted to provide tax compliance and consulting services;
-Independently respond to inquiries from IRS, State, and other tax authorities.
-At least five years corporate tax preparation experience;
-Public accounting experience a plus;
-Tax experience with entities that own Real Estate a plus;
-Exceptional attention to detail;
-Ability to work with minimal oversight;
-Better than average written and oral communication skills;
-Better than average Microsoft Excel and Word skills;
-Excellent organization and documentation skills.
-Accounting, tax or related degree
-CPA a plus but not necessary
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES / UNDERSTANDING
-Familiarity with partnership accounting and tax
-Familiarity with state filings
-Experience with Tax Preparation Software a plus
