The Opportunity - Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting

Western Paper has a rare opening for a Senior Accountant specializing in Financial Reporting.  In this role you will be responsible for reconciling general ledger accounts, performing month-end close activities and producing company financial statements.  This position is for a self-starter who understands debits and credits, the importance of reconciliations and has a financial background to review, dissect and analyze data and trends. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • GL Accounting. 
    • Maintain all accounts
    • Reconcile to sub-ledgers
  • Reconciliations
  • Month-end close process
    • Recording transactions from secondary systems into the general ledger.
    • Post closing entries.
    • Review for errors / corrections
    • Prepare monthly schedules and reports
    • Variation / opportunity analysis
  • Treasury Reporting
  • Financial analysis

Secondary Job Responsibilities:

  • Payroll backup
  • Sales tax backup and knowledge resource
  • Assist with income tax reporting
  • Assist with annual compilations 
  • AP processing 
  • Unclaimed property processing 
  • Process development and improvement 

We are seeking candidates with the following:


  • 3-5 years for experience in GL accounting and reconciliations.
  • Experience in Treasury Management preferred
  • Experience with inventory / distribution a plus


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.


  • CPA or CMA a preferred.

Deliverables you will be responsible for:

  • Accurately post GL transactions.
  • Reconcile all accounts monthly - independently
  • Perform month end close
  • Perform initial review
  • Publish financial statements
  • Perform financial analysis
  • Provide weekly treasury reporting.

Transferable Skills required for the Position:

  • GAAP
  • Tax Knowledge
  • Fixed assets
  • Sales tax knowledge
  • Independent work (part of a team but most work is done independent of others on the team)
  • Ability to prioritize and plan weekly activities to hit deliverables.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong communication skills
    • One-on-one meetings to communicate findings from analysis
    • Clear communication with outside parties (Outside vendors, CPA firm, Customers, etc.)
    • Clear and concise written communication.
  • Secondary
    • Ability to teach / coach AP and Cash Posting staff in proper methods and answer process questions.   Provide feedback and training in a professional manner.
    • Report generation (Crystal reports or other reporting package experience)
