Non-Traditional Travel Writing

A new travel magazine is looking for submissions. I can't pay at this point, but it doesn't hurt to submit. You have nothing to lose. I am not requiring any sort of exclusivity or rights. I am simply in the beginning stages of designing the zine and want stories to fill the pages as I hope to print in the next couple months. If it goes anywhere, you'll see some pay in the future, be able to say you were featured in the first issue, and it can lead to repeat work. The spin on this is it is not a traditional travel magazine. I don't care about luxurious destinations, overpriced meals, or discussions of something that would only appear odd to Americans. I'm starting this after looking for a place to submit my own work on a hitchhiking experience that played a role in changing my life for the better. But everything on the market is geared towards rich people that want exotic destinations - exotic meaning some resort and exclusivity meaning limited by the price. This isn't a magazine for primped assholes. It's a REAL travel magazine. I want stories from the remotest of places, the crazy shit that happened to you somewhere, your hitchhiking story. Anything that is different is welcome. This will be targeted at a younger, more adventurous demographic. If you don't have a lot of writing experience, that's okay. I'm more interested in content. I will have an editor before this goes to print who will be in touch about any changes that may be made or tweaks. So if you've got a crazy story, write it down and share. Articles of all different lengths are welcome. I will probably use about 3 feature length articles and many shorter ones, plus a few commentary pieces. Thanks in advance for your work.

Writers needed for music/pop-culture blog (Denver, CO)

Looking for writers with a passion for music, art, fashion, tech, commentary and any other aspect of pop-culture. We are the collective known as the TrendRobot, an upstart, pop-culture compendium that "publishes" on a daily basis. Anyone with ties to the music industry would be strongly preferred but not required.

The format is very simple . . . publish when you would like, on pretty much whatever you would like . . . as long as it is time-relevant (i.e. - no album reviews from 6 months ago).

Although the blog is very, brand-spanking new, we DO work with companies to secure rights to post songs for obvious, legal reasons, so sharing of copyrighted content is not a problem. Please email us through the craigslist ad or at themediawilldestroyusall@gmail.com

Although the team right now is small, it is steadily growing and progressing. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no compensation model for the blog as it still stands as a place for fun, passionate writing. We are, however, working with different companies to develop an advertising model that could produce revenue in the future.

Writers please apply and we look forward to adding you to the pop-compendium that is trendrobot!

(Note: the site is still in a beta version at trendrobot.wordpress.com, but will be mapped and registered as trendrobot.com within the next week!)

Hi: Spine Road, a very tiny online magazine (www.spineroad.com), is going live tomorrow and just had a few writers pull their non-fiction pieces from the lineup because they were published elsewhere. That means I need some non-fiction pieces, between 1000-3000 words, well-edited, well-written, in my box tonight. This is an emergency. So if you're published, a reasonably good writer, with an odd piece laying around about something surprising, then please email me asap. Follow these directions and I'll consider your piece; don't follow and I'll delete:

email me at spineroad_at_gmail.com with the subject line reading "CRAIGSLIST: NON-FICTION"
in the body of your email give me a short synopsis of your piece (its basic arch), a short bio, and where you've been published.
then attach your text as a .DOC or .PDF file and send.

Thanks.

Social Media/Writing Intern (Centennial)

Overview:

InternInc.com is a new site for helping connect interns, employers and schools. Our site just launched in soft-beta mode. We have some high profile funding and partners, but in these early stages are looking for creative, fun, viral and guerilla marketing tactics to create buzz and drive users to our site.

Intern Responsibilities:

We’re looking for an intern with a journalism, writing, media, or related major. The intern will be responsible for maintaining our social media profiles and sites and meeting goals for promotion and recruitment day to day. For journalism students, this internship will be a great crash-course in using Web 2.0 tactics for driving hits to a website, blog and online content in general.

Our aim is to have a good, witty and creative writer first, and someone who is familiar with Facebook, Twitter and blogging second. If you enjoy news blogs like Gawker, Huffington Post, The Daily Beast, and music blogs like Gorilla vs. Bear, Hipster Runoff and more, this is the internship for you.

We’d like an intern capable of committing 15-20 hours per week helping with our social marketing campaign, contributing to our blogs, and more.

This is an unpaid internship for college credit.

Please email your resume and at least 2 clips, samples of your work, or projects you've worked on and we'll get back to you quickly to set up an interview.

Thanks!
