The main responsibility is tutoring students who request our free, live help. Our service is open and available to anyone that can access the website. Tutors work from the comfort of their own homes/offices on their computer and chat one-on-one with students in an instant messaging-type program. Tutors have many tools at their disposal such as the ability to link the student with online resources, draw on a virtual whiteboard, and transfer the chat to other available tutors online should they need further assistance.
Tutors can tutor in any subject area for which they have knowledge of, at least at the middle school/high school level. Math/science is of high demand, but not required.
We are very flexible with scheduling but request at minimum that tutors be online for two hours a week and commit to six months of tutoring with our service.
If you are a high school student in need of community service hours, we will gladly provide those.
Once we receive and review your application, you will be contacted to set up a phone meeting where we will discuss more about our program and give you the opportunity to ask questions.
Next, telephone orientations will take place late November/early December at which point we will teach tutors the ins and outs of the site and chat program for preparation for our launch on January 18, 2010.

The Green Circle volunteer program is designed for people who would like to help out on a semi-regular basis but do not want to teach. Green Circle volunteers are trained to assist instructors and duties include assisting with equipment, transferring participants to and from ski equipment, helping at the chairlift with loading and unloading, and, when needed, skiing/riding with an instructor who is teaching a group. Volunteers can choose to assist with a morning lesson and free ski/ride in the afternoon, help with an afternoon lesson and free ski/ride in the morning, or help all day and collect an all day ticket for another time.

The IMAGE Group at the University of Colorado Denver is currently recruiting healthy men and women over the age of 55 who are experiencing mild memory problems.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether 6 months of exercise training or a study drug (Pioglitazone) can improve memory function. The study drug and exercise both help insulin in the body work better. Insulin is important to brain function. The goal of this research study is to find out whether improving insulin metabolism, using the study drug or exercise, can help slow declines in memory function compared to those who are not treated.
Research Study Qualifications:
Men and women over the age of 55 years of age
Mild memory problems
Slightly overweight and possibly "pre-diabetic"
Not using hormone therapy
Non-smokers
Not regulary exercising

Organic gardening and forestry activities in the Solheimar Eco-village

Sólheimar Eco-Village, founded in 1930, is the first community in the world where the so-called able and disabled people live and work together. Inspired by the theories of Rudolf Steiner, Sólheimar has focused on cultivating both the individual and the environment and it is the first community in Scandinavia to practice organic farming.
Today, Sólheimar (the home of the sun) is a charming village of about 100 inhabitants, renowned for its international, artistic and ecological atmosphere, which prides itself on its varied cultural, social and sporting activities. The village is only a one-hour drive from Reykjavik. The volunteers will mostly work in the Ölur Forestry Centre (the only organic reforestation centre in Iceland) and in the Sunna Organic Cultivation Centre. During the project, other tasks may arise depending on the needs of the community. The work in Ölur, and in the village as well, will mostly consist in building paths and planting trees in Southern Iceland Farm Forest. In Sunna we will be planting vegetables, eradicating weeds and other gardening work. Project language: English Age range: 18 and over

Organizing games and educational activities for disabled children in Hai Duong Orphanage
With about 1,000 disabled and orphan children coming from many parts of Hai Duong province, the Hai Duong Orphanage aims to provide basic education and vocational training to create employment opportunities for the children of different age groups. The orphanage has a wide variety of courses for children ranging from infants to 18 years old.
For example, children between the ages of 6 to 12 will be provided with educational courses, and the older children are able to attend vocational training courses at the centre.
While special education helps to lessen the burden of children’s families by teaching the disabled to help themselves with personal activities, the vocational training programs
enable handicapped children to earn their living and be able to live independently in the future.
Volunteers will help organizing games and educational activities for children in the orphanage and exchanging with local volunteers or staff. Sometimes volunteers can help with some renovation work.

It's essentially an Objectivist Bill of Rights, but instead of being for only the United States, it's for the whole world. The plan is also to refine it into being an Objectivist Constitution of negative government powers, i.e. limiting the powers of government by the involvement of a voluntary collective of individuals asserting their individual rights against government.

Bali Island is a densely populated island, with population more that 3 million people all together. The population is almost all Indonesian, 95% are of Balinese Hindu descent and could be describe as ethic Balinese. Bali is also a tiny, extremely fertile and dramatically mountainous island. It is only 140 km by 80 km. The tourism boom, which started in 1970s has brought many changes and has helped pay for improvement in roads, telecommunication, education and health. Though tourism has had some marked effects, Bali’s unique culture and custom has proved to be remarkably island. Bali disabled School was founded with the aim to cater for the needs of disabled children and youth in Bali and the surrounding areas. Moreover, this school is also aimed to encourage and motivate the disable children and youth to struggle for their future. We would like to host foreign volunteers because we believe that their interaction with the children, during education and vocational classes and other therapeutic activities will be of great benefit as our students have little or no chances to meet and live with people from other cultures. The intercultural dimension that their presence will generate will also be welcomed and valued by the local staffs. The support that the volunteers will give to our teaching staff, particularly those teaching English, will be invaluable. The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like teaching basic conversation in English, helping teacher in giving training on physical activities of the disabled students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc . Volunteers' influence on students is expected to create a sense of knowledge of other realities of the disabled kids and other cultures in a way that improves their own perception of themselves and what they can achieve. Also to open the mind of international volunteers that the disabled students also need attention to face their future. It will also give opportunity for the international volunteers about the treatment that should be done by the families of disabled children.
WHAT – The Relay For Life of Thornton Kickoff Rally is where anyone – families, caregivers, cancer survivors, schools, companies, etc. – get together to kick off the annual Relay For Life of Thornton activities.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance, and take turns walking around a track relay style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members lost to the disease. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated. Because of events like this one, more people are celebrating more birthdays.

This project has been running successfully since 2004. The Youth House School is a small education center for disadvantaged street children and children coming from a poor fishing village, located in the outskirts of Hanoi. The international volunteers will help run the school and will be responsible for keeping the school clean, cooking free lunch for the children, and teaching them basic things about their countries, health, etc. The volunteers will also organize some leisure activities for youth after school. This is a time for cultural exchange and embracing new relationships. The international volunteers will work together with a team of local volunteers, led by a group leader.
The volunteers will teach around 15 children every day. Remember, the children are not used to rules and structure in their households, so volunteers must try to implement this by setting an example. The Youth House is also a place where young local people and international volunteers come to explore the cultural diversity, by teaching the children together or organizing leisure activities, such as taking the children to the swimming pool.
These activities are combined with projects to help disadvantaged people at the Fisher Village, who are very poor and live in slum-boats on the Red river. This is done by giving them food, medicines, water filters (for clean drinking water), toothpaste, second-hand warm clothes and free showers in winter, etc.
The Red River is the biggest river in Vietnam. The delta is located in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The city continues to expand with many people coming from the countryside into the urban area. This however, is an expensive endeavor with the government imposing a tax on people coming from the rural area to prevent a massive influx of people. Some people decide however to come despite this financial situation and thus must live in house boats at the river to escape from having to pay. Since they do not technically live in Hanoi they must pay for school which is usually free until the age of 12. The entire family must work hours that most people would consider inhumane. The children wander the streets begging and collecting rubbish. An entire family barely makes $2 a day.

We are currently recruiting children (age 8-13 years old) for a research study to look at how the body handles a breakfast meal.
Screening assessments will include:
· a health and physical examination
· 2 blood draws; 2 hours between each blood draw
If you qualify to continue to participate in the study, based on the screening results, you will then complete the following tests over a 2 week period:
· measurement of your muscle and body fat content by DEXA
· measurement of how much energy your body uses when you are resting
You will then participate in the main part of the study. This will require you to participate in one test day. For three days before the test day, we will provide you with all your food and we will ask you not to play any sports or be very active. The night before the test day you will stay overnight in the Clinical Translational Research Center at The Children’s Hospital. The test day will include:
· Ultrasound measures of blood vessel health, three times on the study day
· Drawing of several blood samples from a small tube placed in a forearm vein on the study day.
The test day will last approximately 7hrs.
Compensation will be provided upon completion of the study.
The Colorado Mounted Rangers, renamed in 1940, operate as a 501c3 non-profit volunteer organization and depend on donations to sustain the organization. Colorado Mounted Rangers are available to assist any law enforcement, emergency, or disaster agency that request assistance. In order to generate operational funding, the Rangers also work with Municipal and County governments, non-profit organizations and for profit businesses by providing crowd control, traffic control, parking direction and security. *You will become the most important link in the treatment team for this child. Your foster child will rely on you to help them maneuver through their treatment plan. SKSF will come to meet with you and provide the necessary training and license you to become a certified foster parent. This training is absolutely free to you.
*When you become a foster parent we will assign a supporting Home Supervisor to help you navigate the ongoing journey of foster parenting. Our Home Supervisors exist to be available to you, to answer any questions you may have and to support you in your parenting of children that can be difficult at times, due to where they have come from. You will be given ongoing support, training, and encouragement from your Home Supervisor.
*Financial Reimbursement for care and supervision. To assist in the care of your foster Child(ren), you will be reimbursed for expenses on a general range of $600-$3000 non-taxable monthly income (counted as reimbursement, not a salary), depending on the trauma and/or special needs of your child. Volunteer project: The international volunteer project is organised together with Kwale School for the deaf. The school offers formal learning to hearing impaired learners and they have a small unit for blind children. The school was established in 1968 as a unit and later upgraded into a fully-fledged boarding institution. The school has 17 fully trained teachers from the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE). The learners have various degrees of hearing losses ranging from mild to profound. The school recently received a diagnostic audiometer. Orientation will be conducted for the volunteers to understand the objectives and expectations of the program. Volunteers will be involved in various teaching activities such as assisting the teachers in teaching sign language, playing with the kids, speech therapy, organizing games and art lessons, teaching blind students. No particular expertise or skills required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as low visual aid, speech therapy and sign language) will be used accordingly. Volunteers are expected to love kids and be able to work with differently abled kids. Location: Kwale is located in the Southern part of Kenya, approximately 8 and a half hours drive from Nairobi. Guaymas city has been suffering in the last years unusual weather phenomena. This year the hurricane Jimena has lashed the city of Guaymas leaving an important level of rain. 2009 is the year when it rained the most (in the last 50 years) and this caused an important damage to the population of Guaymas and to the city. The hurricane affected people of all backgrounds, leaving a lot of people in the middle of nowhere since they lost everything they had. Everything was affected, public buildings, leisure areas, houses, schools, there was no place that was not affected. This international volunteer project is organized in order to help in the reconstruction of the city of Guaymas with the support of motivated volunteers. There are many things to be done since there were several areas seriously affected. We need help to clean beaches, to rebuild sportive spaces, to clean up parks and community spaces, to fix roads, to help in rural communities by giving health workshops. After the hurricane, the children affected don’t have a place to continue their studies, they lost everything they had for their education: material, furniture, the roof collapsed and the walls were damaged because of the water and humidity. For that reason, at this first stage, the goal of the project is renovating and reconstructing two schools damaged by the Jimena Hurricane, so the children affected can return to their educative activities as soon as possible and in a clean and healthy environment, appropriate for their development and with the support of the international volunteers. This project will benefit 25 families for the first school and 180 families for the second school. Volunteers will help with the reconstruction of the two schools affected. They will help with reconstruction activities such as painting walls, reforestation, and cleaning the schools. They will contribute to renovate these structures through scratching and painting walls, and will also do some artistic work such as painting murals on the walls of the schools with the help of local volunteers with landscapes and thematic appropriate for the children. The volunteers will also help planting trees and reforesting the affected area, making and putting signals and signs. Age range: 18 and over
My idea is going to the xmas mass at the catholic church in Auraria on the evening and then cook something at home, then go downtown.

Be the safe and comforting person in a sea of confusion as a Volunteer Hospital Advocate. Respond to the hospital and provide advocacy and support to a sex assault victim.
Training: Hospital Advocates take the comprehensive hotline training; Serve at least 3 months as a Hotline Advocate; Receive an additional eight hours of Hospital Advocate training; and shadow an experienced Advocate on a hospital visit.
Requirements: We ask for a commitment of at least one year or nine months for students and at least two shifts per month. Background check required.
As far as them knowing the true meaning of Christmas - are you that brainwashed to think that the true meaning is commercialism? I'll assume you are, and tell you that it isn't. The true meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with plenty of presents, no matter what society tries to shove down our throats.

I have four girls 8, 5, 3 ,and 6 months. I thought I would be ok for christmas but i am afraid I need help. I am working but simply cannot afford anything more than the two gifts for each i bought. I have a very hard time asking for help, but i would like them to have a few more things than what i have. They believe in santa but know full well the true meaning of christmas, and I do not want them to hurt because i am financially strapped. Any stocking stuffers etc. would be greatly appreciated. I know everyone is struggling and do not want to seem greedy so please don't let this post offend.
