You guys are going the right way to get abortion banned -- chip away at it until there's nothing left of it, but if you're a secular pro-life guy, you need to know what led up to this whole Abortion BS thing.
1) Abstinence Only education.
"Your body will start telling you that that other person looks attractive and you want to do something that involves taking your clothes off! Don't do it! Save yourself for marriage!" The young boy or young girl may well listen to that message. However, some time down the road, that child will be playing with someone that he/she 'really likes', and instead of listening to that message, they'll go 'with what's natural'. The result? A teenage girl pregnant, and then...
2) Making sex a moral sin.
...she'll feel bad and won't talk to her mom and dad about it. She'll try to hide that she's pregnant, and by the time she's discovered, she'll be so far along in her pregnancy that she'll no longer be able to conceal it from anyone, parents or fellow classmates.
3) Criminalizing late term abortions.
"It's a baby!" "You murderer!" What they don't say is, "Hey, we gotcha. Had we taught you about the birds and the bees and how to avoid getting pregnant in the first place instead of unrealistically expecting you to not listen to your body, made pills and condoms available to teens, didn't make sex something immoral, and taught tolerance instead of condemnation, you may have never had a child, and if you did accidentally conceive, you could have talked to your parents before world+dog knew about it and kept it a private, if scary secret. Haha."
Now, I can think of something that's dangerously black-helicopter territory here, but it's something to think about. That 16 year old girl is real, and her boyfriend is also real, a real cad of a guy who left her and her baby to be raised by her mom and father. Before this all happened, she was an A student in school, on her way to college, and looking forward to entering nursing. But her sex-ed was southeast Louisiana standard sex-ed...'Just don't do it'. She knew to use a condom, but she didn't know what other options were out there. Her cad of a boyfriend insisted that he wouldn't have sex with her if she made him wear a condom. I know thanks to my many more years on this Earth some alternatives:

3) Spermacidal creme
4) Birth Control
5) Plan B

She didn't know any of these. In fact, she didn't even know that AIDS was the least of her worries of diseases, and that when she slept with him unprotected, she slept with every other girl he'd ever slept with. She certianly didn't know about Plan B, and as the example above showed, she went 5 months wearing looser and looser clothing until her mom walked in on her in the shower one day and saw why she was wearing loose clothing. As expected, she was chewed up one side and down the other -- NOT for concealing her condition for that long, but for having sex (and not just unprotected sex, but sex period!) before marriage! 4 months later, she delivered the child, and by then, the guy who knocked her up was already long gone.
She dropped out of high school. She worked at McDonalds to make ends meet. Her Mom and Dad raised that grandchild as their own child. The child turned out to be a trouble child, refusing to follow instructions and throwing tempertantrums, much like a chip off the old block that is his dad, a guy who last I heard was on the run from a city's cops in California for some petty robbery thing.
In the ideal world, she wouldn't have felt ashamed to tell her parents she got knocked up by this guy. She'd know to go get Plan B immediately after unprotected sex with him, or would be on the pill, or would have simply said, "You want me to fuck you knowing your history WITHOUT protection? Fuck off, dipshit! You want this body, cover your buddy!" In an ideal world, I'd be saying hello to a nurse working at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge.

If Right to Life is so important, why is it the Liberals who want to ease life after the child is born, and not Conservatives?
Why have Conservatives gutted family protection programs and continue to do everything to cut social support programs of all kinds?
Now do you see the basis behind the Liberal retort to 'Pro-Life': 'Pro-Life until you're born, then fuck you.'
In an interview this week with "Relevant," a Christian magazine, Obama said prohibitions on late-term abortions must contain "a strict, well defined exception for the health of the mother."
Obama then added: "Now, I don't think that 'mental distress' qualifies as the health of the mother. I think it has to be a serious physical issue that arises in pregnancy, where there are real, significant problems to the mother carrying that child to term."
Last year, after the Supreme Court upheld a federal ban on late-term abortions, Obama said he "strongly disagreed" with the ruling because it "dramatically departs form previous precedents safeguarding the health of pregnant women."
The health care exception is crucial to abortion rights advocates and is considered a legal loophole by abortion opponents. By limiting the health exception to a "serious physical issue," Obama set himself apart from other abortion rights proponents.
The official position of NARAL Pro-Choice America, the abortion rights group that endorsed Obama in May, states: "A health exception must also account for the mental health problems that may occur in pregnancy. Severe fetal anomalies, for example, can exact a tremendous emotional toll on a pregnant woman and her family."
The 1973 landmark abortion case, Roe v. Wade, established a right to an abortion, and a concurrent case, Doe v. Bolton, established that medical judgments about the need for an abortion could include physical, emotional and psychological health factors.
"Senator Obama has consistently maintained that laws restricting abortions must contain exceptions for the health and life of the mother," Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said Thursday. "Obviously, as he stated in the interview, he has consistently believed those exceptions should be clear and limited enough to ensure that they don't undermine the prohibition on late-term abortions."
In a statement, NARAL Pro-Choice said Obama's magazine interview is consistent with Roe v. Wade.
"Sen. Obama has consistently said he supports the tenets set forth by Roe, and has made strong statements against President Bush's Federal Abortion Ban, which does not have an exception to protect a woman's health," the organization's statement said.
A leading abortion opponent, however, said Obama's rhetoric does not match his voting record and his previously stated views on abortion rights.
David N. O'Steen, the executive director of National Right to Life, said Obama's remarks to the magazine "are either quite disingenuous or they reflect that Obama does not know what he is talking about."
"You cannot believe that abortion should not be allowed for mental health reasons and support Roe v Wade," O'Steen said.
In the interview with Relevant, conducted on Tuesday, Obama also defended his opposition to restrictions on induced abortions where the fetus sometimes survives for short periods. Obama voted against such a bill when he was in the Illinois Senate. He has said he supported a federal version of the law that contained more specific language because he feared the Illinois proposal would have applied to all abortions.
"There was a bill that came up in Illinois that was called the 'Born Alive' bill that purported to require life-saving treatment to such infants. And I did vote against that bill," Obama said Tuesday. "The reason was that there was already a law in place in Illinois that said that you always have to supply life-saving treatment to any infant under any circumstances, and this bill actually was designed to overturn Roe v. Wade, so I didn't think it was going to pass constitutional muster."
As I grew older, had kids of my own, and now have grandchildren, I learned the real values in this world, and that's our children. When I went through as a supporter during the pregnancies of my wife I soon realized there was more to it than I had thought. My son, my daughters.....my grandchildren.....and they were very much alive before being born. In today's world of free sex (meaning no responsibility) and careless acts with no commitment, then the women has a responsibility to face reality. She can get pregnant, or she can prevent it. To kill an unborn child because of carelessness or just not caring is something that emotionally harms a woman. Ask any who has undergone abortion. They will tell you it is traumatizing as hell. Rape, incest, and other considerations are something else. Some women chose to keep those babies, and some don't. To me, to punish the baby with a death sentence because of something they cannot help is astounding in a civilized world. That's basically what it is, BUT, on the other hand, to keep the baby and punish it later in life because of your own emotional problems is also as bad. That's why people adopt. Late term abortions are especially appalling, because adoptive parents are lined up for newborn babies to take home.
I am still trying to understand why a society as civilized as we like to think we are can condone killing an innocent child for the sake of convenience or hardship. As of yet, no one here has actually tried to explain that other than to repeat over and over the same rhetoric that it's the "woman's choice". So tell us.....why is the woman's choice to kill, and not the father's? Also, why isn't it ok to kill that same child later on if it become's an inconvenience?

What kind of stupid ass technicality is "it’s only a fetus" these people are fooling the populous! In a late term abortion, the baby jumps around spastically while the doctor is ripping its body parts off.
Here’s the real kick in the head! We kill abandoned dogs in a more humane manor! They get a shot that puts them into a deep comfy sleep and their heart stops, no pain at all.

My response: Abortion is an extreme response to a preventable situation: Parental Guidance; Abstinence; followed by education & birth control are ways to minimize abortion. Adoption should also be very strongly encouraged. But failing all of that; abortion should be a decision left to the individuals involved (father, parents, mother etc.) Government should not be involved. IMO if a woman decides to have an abortion it should be performed in the first to second trimester. Late term abortions should only be done if the health of the mother is at risk.
It would also help if Christians could get on the same page about abortion. Does life really start at conception?

I agree that our society is lacking on the moral front but honestly do not see why liberals/Progressives have to take all of the blame. After all the Porn Industry is big business . . . who supports big business and the entrepreneurial spirit?

My response: In any capitalistic system (a good thing) there are winners and losers (otherwise it would not be capitalism.) What is wrong with a simple social "safety net" for people who have fallen on hard times? A major welfare overhaul occurred during the Clinton Administration (Even Rush Limbaugh acknowledge that.) It is now a lot harder for people to abuse the system. Constant vigilance and regulation will ensure that only those truly in need will get the assistance they need.

My response: The honesty of the CIC has been called into question by main stream media as well as MoveOn. As far as top Generals are concerned: Why did Colin Powell leave the administration? Why is Gen Wesley Clark (Bronze and Silver Star awarded from service in Vietnam) endorsing Obama? What about overwhelming corporate corruption and wrong doing? (Enron comes to mind.) Jealousy and envy are pretty simplistic criticisms to throw at those of use who are a little left-of-center.

Do you have kids? If so, the next time you hold one close and they are holding and loving you back, think about what if.....think of the trauma to the fetus/baby when it's life is ended. Just because you can't see it, or hear it, or know it's reaction, doesn't mean it can't feel.

The phrase “intelligent design” in this argument is a euphemism for “Book of Genesis.” This is the lie at the heart of the discussion, which isn’t about intelligent design at all. It’s about certain Christians, counting the hours until the Rapture (when the rest of us get what’s coming to us), who believe that their dogma should be taught in public schools. The question is, how is God incapable of designing Darwinian evolution? I maintain that God can create life through whatever mechanism He chooses. He gave us the brains to figure our what happened, and the evidence He gave us indicates that life evolved on this planet.
