Emotions Anonymous (EA) is a twelve-step program, for recovery from mental and emotional illness, such as: mood disorders, anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, personality disorders, etc. The Denver group meets weekly to share our experience, strength, and hope with one another in order to improve our mental health and discover ways to live at peace with unsolved problems. EA members are from all walks of life and are of diverse ages, economic status, social and educational backgrounds, sexual orientations, religious and cultural backgrounds. There are no dues or fees required. The only requirement for membership is a desire to become emotionally healthy.

I'm currently a web producer (over qualified) here in Denver. I have some personal projects varying from a locals social networking web site, 2D game engine and concept, and a reactable (Google it!) but we don't necessarily need to work on those and would be more than happy to pick up one of your projects, create a new one, or do some open source.

My school background is in software engineering and mathematics. I dig signal processing and music. I'm well rounded in several languages (C#, C++, JAVA, RoR, Perl) and never have had a problem picking up a new one. Prefer agile programming.

What is FA?
FA is a program based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. There are no dues, fees, or weigh-ins at FA meetings. FA is a fellowship of individuals who, through shared experience and mutual support, are recovering from the disease of food addiction.

Who Joins FA?
FA members are men and women of all ages, from the United States and abroad. Some of us have been obese; others have been anorexic, bulimic, or so obsessed with food or weight that we could not freely live our lives. Among us are people who have weighed as little as 62 pounds, more than 385 pounds, and of normal weight, obsessed with food and/or dieting.

Does the program really work?
Typically, FA members have tried any number of solutions to their problems with food, including (for many of us) years of diets or exercise. In FA, we have finally found an answer that is long-term. FA members have maintained normal weights and found freedom from obsession for more than twenty years. As more and more newcomers enter the program, the number of people with five or ten years of recovery continues to grow.

Are you a food addict?
To find out, ask yourself the following questions and answer them as honestly as you can:

1. Have you ever wanted to stop eating and found you just couldn't?
2. Do you think about food or your weight constantly?
3. Do you find yourself attempting one diet or food plan after another, with no lasting success?
4. Do you binge and then "get rid of the binge" through vomiting, exercise, laxatives, or other forms of purging?
5. Do you eat differently in private than you do in front of other people?
6. Has a doctor or family member ever approached you with concern about your eating habits or weight?
7. Do you eat large quantities of food at one time (binge)?
8. Is your weight problem due to your "nibbling" all day long?

11. Have you ever discarded food, only to retrieve and eat it later?

16. Do you feel driven to exercise excessively to control your weight?

So the 5280 "Best of" issue came out, and I thought I might fall over dead after seeing the readers' favorites: Heidi's Deli...Brothers BBQ - why not just throw Applebee's and every other chain in there and call it a day?

I realize that I am from a city that has a thriving restaurant scene, and quite clearly, I moved here for other reasons...but I have found some favorites scattered through D-town, and I'd love to find more - I thought it would be fun to meet new people who want to do the same!

I am NOT a snob, nor am I wealthy - I'm a 36 year-old outgoing, sarcastic 8th-grade teacher. I can work in an expensive meal every so often, but I don't think food has to be expensive to taste good. I do have friends, so this also isn't some cover for a lonely girl who's tired of eating alone. :) My friends are awesome but are more easily satisfied than I am when it comes to picking a restaurant.

I would be open to cooking, but I am more of the ingredient/wine bringing type, and my shoebox of a condo would not enable me to have everyone over.

That was for those of you who never read the whole post and don't see that at the bottom of my rambling. So I started with it. Now I will ramble

Ever find yourself knitting at home watching CNN or whatever and get so angry at the talking heads that you argue with them, and maybe even start throwing needles? Or maybe as you're knitting you start thinking of the ethical implications of using another animals hair, or parts of plant, to knit with. Well, you're not (totally) alone.

We're a (small) group of people who meet weekly to knit together, and get inspiration for new projects, but mostly have absurd discussions about politics, philosophy, and our cats (although we banned the last one finally). We range in both age and experience, with members such as myself, 21 with three years of knitting experience and tendency to make up my own patterns, to my stepmom who is still struggling with her first scarf (although she can crochet with the best of them).

All are welcome, no matter age, political or sexual orientation, or gender for that matter. Please join us. You are free to just show up but since we do cancel meetings sometimes it's best to email me first so I know you're coming. Hope to see ya soon!
