Curriculum Development Advisors/Mentors. (Work from home.) (Remote/Anywhere)

The Exploration Summer Programs are seeking creative and experienced educators to serve as Pre-Season Curriculum Advisors (PCAs) during the winter and spring for one to six different summer enrichment courses. Over the course of a three-week development cycle, PCAs communicate with course instructors via phone and email to help them transform their ideas into creative lesson plans for a three-week enrichment course that will be taught during the summer.

Each summer, Exploration offers more than 150 unique courses and more than 90 unique mini-courses in a wide array of academic disciplines. (See our website, www.explo.org, for a sample of the kinds of courses we offer.) These enrichment courses are hands-on, not-for-credit, and ungraded. They are taught by summer instructors who are passionate about the fields in which they are teaching, but who are primarily undergraduate and graduate students with little or no teaching experience. The primary responsibility of the PCA is to mentor these young teachers in the development of student-centered, activity-based curriculum that will encourage our summer students to challenge themselves, discover the world of people and ideas, and experience the joy of learning.

A brief online training for new PCAs takes place in December. Curriculum advising takes place between January and June. Most PCAs advise between one and six courses. Exploration coordinates an advising schedule with PCAs, such that the advising process for a single course or mini-course/workshop is completed in approximately three weeks (of your choosing). A full course usually takes between 15 hours to advise; a mini-course/workshop usually takes 7 hours to advise.

PCAs may elect to receive either monetary compensation or graduate credit (or a mixture of the two) for their work as PCAs. PCAs are compensated $200 per full-course and $100 per mini-course. PCAs that advise 3 full-courses (or the equivalent thereof), may elect instead to receive 4 graduate credits transferable to the graduate program of their choosing. Exploration is a Professional Development Provider and, as such, can award recertification points for this work.

Candidates for the position should have at least two years of experience as an educator (public or private). A degree in education is not required, but is certainly a plus.

Interested applicants can apply at our hiring website: http://hiring.explo.org/pca.html

Additional questions can be directed to Barb Trainor, Director of Curriculum and Instruction at btrainor@explo.org, or by calling (781)762-7400.

NOTE: Please do not send resumes, as we will only view applications that are submitted through our hiring website.

If you feel that the brief description above sounds like something you would like to be a part of, please send your resume, head shot and a short statement telling K(INspire) why you should be picked over all of our other candidates. Preferably, you are a conservatory-created dancer and/or have a minimum BA in Dance, under the age of 30, have a well-versed knowledge in any of the above styles (feel free to tell me if you have additional styles in your repertoire--tumbling/gymnastics a huge +), and you MUST have quality experience in teaching students anywhere from age 3 to 40. BACKGROUND ON ENVISION SCHOOLS COLORADO

Envision Schools Colorado (ESC) is a new nonprofit charter management organization (CMO), the first in Colorado, which will ultimately operate a network of six schools in the Denver metro area. Our CMO is based on the successful model and track record of Envision Schools, a CMO based in San Francisco that operates four high schools in the Bay Area. The first two ESC schools will be located in the Denver Public Schools (DPS) district.

The mission of Envision Schools Colorado is to transform the lives of all our students, especially those who will be the first in their family to attend college, by preparing them for success in college and in life. Our schools will be true communities marked by intentional diversity, rigorous academic discipline, and excellence at every level.

Compassion and high expectations will inspire and empower our students to succeed. Each Envision school is academically rigorous and integrates art and technology across the curriculum to instill the critical thinking, life experience, and creative skills necessary for students to be successful in college and beyond.

Our first school, Envision Leadership Prep, opened in August 2009 in the Park Hill neighborhood of northeast Denver. The second ESC school (“Envision Prep #2”) will also be located in an area of Denver that has been traditionally underserved. Locations for the remaining four schools remain to be determined but will be in metro Denver districts. Each school opens with ~100 sixth graders and ~100 ninth graders and will increase by two grades each year until the fourth year, when only sixth graders will be admitted. At capacity, each school will serve ~700 students in grades 6 through 12.
